This 109 acre park was originally laid out by robert marnock, a renowned landscape gardener, in 1978. it was formally opened by prince and princess of wales on june 26th 1882. the park is a grade to designated site in the "register of parks and gardens of special historic interest". the lower park has a boating lake, war memorial, bowls greens, information point, toilets, cafe, events area's, bandstand and adventure playground. theres also a park ranger's office at the tennis pavillon.
